Method
- Rinse rice under cold water until water runs clear.
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Cook onion until softened then add garlic.
- Stir in sofrito and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add tomato sauce, sazón, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper.
- Add beans and stir well.
- Add rice and chicken broth and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook 18–20 minutes.
- Fluff rice with a fork and garnish with cilantro before serving.
Notes
Add diced ham or pork for additional traditional flavor.
