Ingredients
  

Chocolate Cake Base
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted
Gooey Chocolate Layer
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 3.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.25 cup cocoa powder

Equipment

  • 9x13 baking pan

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven and prepare baking pan.
  2. Mix cake base ingredients and press into pan.
  3. Beat cream cheese, eggs, butter, and vanilla.
  4. Add powdered sugar and cocoa and mix until smooth.
  5. Pour filling over base and bake 40–45 minutes.
  6. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

Notes

Do not overbake — the center should remain slightly gooey for best texture.
